Calm, Cool and Reasoned @NRA

The NRA’s ad attacking President Obama would be hilarious if the subject at hand were not so deadly and darkly ironic; much as the right wing threats of ‘Civli War‘ sound like a child who disagrees with Mommy swearing they aren’t a part of the family anymore, except these are children armed with assault rifles, paranoid fantasies, and a rage born of impotent frustration. It is so easy to laugh at the spectacle of state legislators trying to pass laws banning federal actions that one forgets that these are grown men and elected officials who are engaging in these kinds of antics a mere month after the slaughter at Sandy Hook Elementary. Incidentally, well over 900 Americans have been killed by firearms since then. At least 14 of them were children under the age of 12.

We are arguing with adults who cannot accept reality and so they try to manufacture their own where government agents are slaughtering citizens so that the public will support the New World Order or aliens or whatever the hell childhood fantasy they’re clinging to. The man who took in kids running from the massacre is being relentlessly harassed by these demented troglodytes who have sold their humanity to their gun lust. How dare we let people such as this make any determinations about public safety and then call ourselves responsible?

These are people who sell Psalm 109 bumper stickers
Psalm 109 8-12:

8 May his days be few;
may another take his office!
9 May his children be fatherless
and his wife a widow!
10 May his children wander about and beg,
seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!
11 May the creditor seize all that he has;
may strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!
12 Let there be none to extend kindness to him,
nor any to pity his fatherless children!

-and then produce a commercial calling this President (who has had more death threats than any other) a hypocrite because his daughters have Secret Service protection at their school. They threaten terrorism and civil war while calling themselves patriots. They are running a racket where they are scamming themselves while endangering us all.

Here’s what the NRA and their masters in the firearms industry are going to discover; we will ignore them and work around them if they don’t want to be part of the conversation. Their numbers aren’t quite what they say they are and there are gun owners who are absolutely disgusted and repelled by their amoral tactics. If individuals freak out and try to start their own ‘civil wars’ they will be arrested and imprisoned. If legislatures pass illegal laws they will be repealed.  If nothing changes, our children will continue to be sacrificed to Moloch so that the paranoid half men can keep polishing their prosthetic penises and fantasizing about overthrowing the state.

The NRA is nothing but a collection of tiny bullies with megaphones and money; that they are so hysterically doubling down on their losing hand demonstrates how tenuous their position really is. They have been backed up on their heels and are making crazy threats because they don’t know what else to do. This is the time to keep pushing at them until they totter and fall; we need to teach them that we are more relentless than them, that we care more than they do, and that the security and liberty of our nation and our children are far more important than their hobby.

  1. I understand the ‘net is not really a place for reasoned discussion. It really has become a place for name calling and pissing contests. But despite that, I’d like to use it to get some of my thoughts out about this issue. Some of this might actually surprise you Winston.

    I am really frustrated by this whole argument that is occupying our country right now. I think what frustrates me the most is that this is something we CAN have reasoned discussion on and find some common sense responses.

    When I was younger I was of the opinion that all guns should be banned. Period. No one should have them. Period. Over the years my positions have evolved.. Maybe it has something to do with getting older, maybe moving to to Texas has changed my thinking. Who knows…

    I do understand that many people feel the need to carry a firearm in order to protect themselves and those they care about. I met an Anesthesiologist who owns an AR-15, a Saiga semi-auto shotgun and several handguns. He and his wife (a friend of my wife’s) both have CCW licenses. He is careful with his weapons keeping them in a locked gun safe in an area of the house where his children cannot go. (On a side note, holding an almost mil-spec AR-15 is a surreal experience!) Personally, I would never have a firearm in my house but if he wants to and is doing it safely that’s fine. I also met a woman who owns a ranch on the Texas- Mexico border. Her several square mile territory is a high traffic area for the drug cartels. She carries an AR in her truck. The Texas Rangers told her they didn’t know how long it would take to respond if she got into trouble. So she decided to buy an AR and learn how to use it.

    These are examples of folks I don’t mind having firearms. However, I have also lived in Chicago for many years and I understand what the easy availability of guns can do to the inner-city. We live in such a large and varied country that a one size fits all approach simply won’t work. We MUST all get together and calmly try to figure out what to do.

    The President and Vice-President have tried to do that. But, the NRA and the GOP are not interested in talking about anything that might even appear to limit the availability of anything firearm related. When we have a health crisis, we get all of the experts to a table and we figure out what to do. In 2011 about 40,000 people died of Breast Cancer. In the same year, around 30,000 people died as a direct result of firearms. Look at all we are doing to cure Breast Cancer. We have an entire industry devoted to it! Why can’t we do something similar with firearms?

    Making the US firearm free is impossible and is in many ways a bad idea. But can’t we have a rational, calm decision on how to go about saving some lives?

    For example, are Universal background checks really such a hardship? In Texas to get a Drivers license I have to show proof of driving ability (i.e. a valid license from another state.) proof of Insurance, proof of residence in the state and the Title from all vehicles that are in my name. There is a gun show in Dallas this or next weekend. How hard would it be for me to go and buy an AR-15? Does anyone else find that odd?

    I pray we find some common ground soon.

    Just found this on another site. I’m no constitutional scholar, but this came as a surprise. Amazingly, pro-gun whack-jobs will argue that this is somehow “spin” or “left-wing propaganda”, but I fail to see how clarifying facts about the drafting of the constitution is “spin”.

  4. Letsbereal Says:

    it seems you try to sound educated yet have on idea how uneducated you look to the true educated on the subject, in 1994 a gun ban was passed and expired 2004 and a federal study performed by the governments CDC concluded that they had no evidence to show it effected gun violence at all, and since the gun ban expired in 2004 gun violence has dropped majory, those are the real facts and sourced from the government and not just random unverifiable uncredible websites like you seem to focus on using to make your points of non facts. And anti-gun mongrel’s are losing there unconstitutional communist battle with great loss. And these men wore bullet proof vest’s knowing the only thing that could stop them is a armed man to shoot back.

    Your assertions are incorrect.

    Of course, because the NRA has spent much time and effort keeping any meaningful research into firearms violence over the past ten years, the statistics aren’t as accurate as they should be.

    http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2013/01/14/169164414/lack-of-up-to-date-research-complicates-gun-debate

    Why is it that despite there being armed guards and armed individuals present at these school shootings not one has ever been stopped by the armed guard or private individuals?

    Not one of them was stopped by an armed man shooting back and in fact they all suicide out before engaging with authorities.

    So, there’s that.

    Welcome back. You’re almost keeping a civil tongue in your head, so I will respond to your legitimate questions and assertions; however, if you decide to take the crazy train, I will be happy to play Mr Conductor and punch your ticket.

    Enjoy your day,

    Winston
