sunday stretching

random observations in no particular order…

The frenzied pundit swarm over Obama’s is a hilarious example of the double standard that liberals, and especially someone like Barack, is subjected to. Speaking to a group of his backers he said, “You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them,” Obama said. “And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” What an inhuman monster. Obviously he has committed the greatest sin a politician is capable of; speaking honestly. I’m familiar with small towns in America’s rust belt and Obama’s characterization is dead on. In all my encounters with and reading of conservatives I can say that the primary motivating emotions behind their ideologies are fear and frustrated rage. They fear an end to their way of life, a loss of their communities and homes, and invasion by outsiders. They feel frustrated rage because they have been repeatedly betrayed by those who have flattered them and exploited their patriotism for their vote-the things they fear happening become more real as their local economies disintigrate. How does repealing the Estate Tax (that’s the ‘Death Tax’ in Newspeak) help Small Town Americans? How does abstinence ‘education’ and denial of medical services help Small Town Americans? How does union busting help Small Town Americans? How has George W Bush helped Small Town Americans other than helping himself? Rush Limbaugh and company sweet talk the ‘folks’ while fleecing them into voting against their own best interests. Obama’s mistake was mentioning this out loud.

After the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the US boycotted the 1980 Olympics. China was one of the nations that joined the US. Many athletes who did participate did not march to their national anthems or fly their flags, using the OIympic flag and anthem instead which led to some awards ceremonies where three Olympic flags were flown. Today China is brutally repressing the Tibetans (among other atrocities) but the US is fully and enthusiastically participating in their Olympics. National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley says that ‘quiet diplomacy’ is the best way for the US to proceed in this situation. Perhaps this is because China holds nearly a half trillion dollars (%20 of the total) in US debt. Or maybe the Bush Administration is just incredibly wise and prudent. You decide.

Speaking of the Russkies… They did some ok stuff I guess.

These are totally hilarious.  The ‘nannies’ one really killed me.

Kenny apparently stood up by himself yesterday. A couple of days ago a machine was doing his breathing for him. At this rate by Thursday he’ll be able to fly and shoot rays out of his eyes.

  1. Ecclesiastes 1:9
The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

  2. ‘All of this has happened before and it will all happen again’
    -Battlestar Galactica

Thank you for your comment. I wrote a piece on Ecclesiastes recently you might find interesting.
There’s a clever way to put that link in as hypertext but I’d just smuck it up.
