Science!
God, I am so thankful for science,
that disorganized progression
of ideas and methods
that has lifted our species from darkness.
I unspill with gratitude for the catalogers,
experimenters and hypothesizers
who made sense of the world they found
and left it a better place.
Because of the gifts of lenses and calculus
the universe may be contained
in the nutshell of my mind.
Because of lenses and a theory
we have real medicine
and smallpox is contained in a vial in a vault.
Because of a theory and watching an eclipse
we learned why the stars shine
and how to unleash the fire of the Sun upon the Earth.
Science is not a religion;
it is a tool like an obsidian knife
in our ancestors hands.
It has no will of its own
and its use is a result
of our own desires;
science cannot be blamed
for the actions of humanity.
